My wonderful husband, UT History Professor Emilio Zamora. I can't imagine having lived this life without him.

My Vitae

PictureThis is me testifying on an assessment bill at the Texas State Legislature on a bill before the House Committee on Public Education April, 2015.
I have been a university professor for 31 years and it is the autonomy and flexibility in schedules together with an intellectually stimulating environment that I really like about my job.  Even after I take my teaching, departmental, or administrative activities into account, I still have the time and space that I need to think, research, write, publish, maintain healthy family relations and friendships, work in the community, and be a voice for positive change.

For 23 or so of these years, this work consists of policy analysis and more often than not, legislative battles in a number of areas where the Texas Center for Education Policy at the University of Texas has been able to influence policy.  These areas include assessment, high-stakes testing, accountability, vouchers and privatization, and areas of higher education like financial aid and Texas' Top Ten Percent Plan.

I am regularly asked to deliver lectures and speeches on my work in Texas and throughout the country, and internationally, as well.  I also love to teach and work closely with our students at the university.
